About Us

Rubicon Racing has been formed by long standing successful race horse owner Carl Hinchy to provide a range of options for national hunt enthusiasts to take either their first steps into ownership or for established owners to join like minded people and become involved in some exciting new partnerships.

The aim is to provide something for everyone with a range of options which will include not only NH racehorses but breeding syndicates and pin hooking syndicates which will enable those involved to experience and learn about the fascinating jumps game from the cradle to the track.

Most of all it is our intention for all who become involved to enjoy every aspect of this unique sport and along the way to experience and savour the incredible journey and thrills that racehorse ownership can bring.

The experience our team has built up after over 30 years in ownership with an impressive track record will ensure that you enjoy a unique and personal thrill of ownership with an emphasis on striving to be successful but having as much fun as possible along the way.

Value and quality in the jumps world are becoming increasingly harder to find but we will be using our contacts and experience to try and ensure that success can still be achieved on a reasonable budget.

Please read on and consider the carefully selected first offerings our team who have been busy at the sales have put together. We’d love you to join us on our exciting journey hopefully all the way to the winners enclosure.

Meet the Team

Carl Hinchy

Carl Hinchy

Director / Racing Manager

Carl picked up the racing bug from god knows where? Growing up in Southport when Red Rum was winning Grand Nationals and being trained on his local beach may well have been a part but the first real memories are bunking into Aintree under the Melling Road fence with his pals in his teenage years (and a good few after). The size and athleticism of those incredible horses left their mark and soon racing was to become a lifelong fascination ultimately leading to the transition from spectator to participant and the fantastic journey from sneaking into Aintree to being presented with trophies in the winners enclosure, having runners in the Grand National itself and being a regular guest in the chairman’s box.

Carl’s first involvement in ownership was a 2% share in an unraced jumps horse called Honolulu with Andy Streeter sadly this horse didn’t make the track but the thrill of seeing a horse he owned part of on the gallops led to more interests. A lengthy involvement again in small shares with the good people at diamond racing was another step along the path to full ownership.

Starting off with smaller shares was a fantastic introduction and one which for many people leads on to a greater involvement and often culminates in sole or larger shared ownership. A great way to begin your journey or to enable you to shrewdly spread your interests over a number of horses.

In Over a decade of sole ownership Carl has been lucky to have worked with many of the top UK trainers and bloodstock agents enjoying fantastic success with horses bearing his colours winning over 70 races at all the top tracks such as Aintree, Ascot, Cheltenham, Kempton, Newbury, Sandown, Chepstow, Warwick and Haydock including multiple listed races graded races and top handicaps and even after a few narrow misses a grade 1 winning chaser with the Ascot Chase victory of Riders on the Storm a horse Carl purchased from the Goffs Horses in training sale for £50k less than 12 months earlier. Riders won over £200k in the season he was purchased highlighting that a value approach and shrewd purchasing can still bring top level success in this great sport.

The last few years has seen Carl buying more for partnerships including the successful association with Mark Scott which brought graded success at sensible prices for Mossy Fen and Riders onthe storm and a hat trick for the bold jumping handicapper Five Star Getaway.

Carl and his team have also enjoyed success with breeding and the buying and selling of horses at store sales with some notable successes in this arena with young stock selling at major sales here and abroad for in excess of £100k purchased by the likes of Willie Mullins and Gigginstown house stud.

Having begun his journey into racehorse ownership in small syndicates Carl is looking forward to sharing his knowledge and putting his energies alongside his close team of professionals into making a success of Rubicon Racing and enjoying future ownership and lots of exciting times with the next generation of racing fans.

Richard Hobson

Richard Hobson

Trainer

Delighted to say that Richard has started this season with a bang by training our own Riders on the Storm to land the Prestigious Grade 2 Old Roan Chase at Aintree racecourse.

A true horseman it’s fair to say that Richard has spent his whole life dedicated to our equine friends. Growing up in his fathers racing yard initially in England and then in France Richard spent 14 years as a jockey riding winners in France America England and Italy.

Richard has excelled in his career as a trainer where from small numbers of horses he has achieved outstanding success with multiple graded winners at big tracks. He combines successfully his training career with his career as a successful bloodstock agent where he specialises in importing French Bred NH thoroughbred and AQPS horses to huge acclaim. The winners of over 50 graded races have Richard to thank for reaching our shores including the Great Hurricane Fly as an obvious standout.

Here at Rubicon we have gained experience of many different trainers and their methods over the years but nowhere have we seen horses looked after so meticulously and prepared for the track so thoroughly as those under Richards care.

Our confidence in Richard is such that we have sent him 2 outstanding young prospects for the season ahead and he is very excited at the prospects of training quality horses for Rubicon and it’s shareholders.

Richard looks forward to seeing you at the track and welcoming you to his yard near Stow-on-the-Wold.

Christian Williams

Christian Williams

Trainer

Christian Williams needs no introduction to fans of NH racing after his barnstorming exploits over the last few seasons where he has successfully targeted almost every major staying chase in the calendar.

Christians horses have now won the Welsh National, the Eider Chase, Racing Post Chase and Scottish National to name but a few.

Another exceptional horseman Christian has developed his own methods of training using the wonderful Ogmore on Sea sand dunes beaches and rivers. A quite unique and brilliant man who we have been lucky enough to share some of his journey and look forward to continuing to do so in the years ahead.

We have seen Chris excel with horses nurtured and brought up with his exceptional and unique methods and we were keen to support him with the highest quality horses possible.

Chris will initially be training the brother to Grade 1 winning Itchy Feet for Rubicon a horse that Christian has had under his care since he was a yearling. We purchased this horse from Christian upon his recommendation. The horse oozes quality and Chris absolutely adores him.

Chris is looking forward to seeing you at Ogmore and sharing lots of exciting days ahead on the track.

Ian Williams

Ian Williams

Trainer

What can we say about Ian Williams that hasn’t already been said, a fantastic character an experienced trainer who’s cv is exceptional. Although a dual-purpose trainer Ian began his career training alongside legends of the jumps game such as Jenny Pitman and Francois Douman and jumping is very much in his blood.

Having achieved the feat of training a winner at every UK racecourse Ian has also trained winners at the Cheltenham and Aintree festivals.

When looking for a horse to compete in the specialist juvenile hurdling division where else would we go than to Ian. Ian was tasked with finding us at the sales or through his contacts a ready to go quality horse perfect for this division and one who could potentially go back to the flat and land us a big pot.

We were delighted when Ian called to say he had found the perfect horse in State Legend and we look forward to you getting involved in what will be a fun and exciting syndicate with plenty of great days out this season.

Ian’s Dominion Stables are without doubt one of the finest racing yards in the country and we will look forward to welcoming you there to see your horse.

Laura Morgan

Laura Morgan

Trainer

Laura has been punching above her weight since setting up her racing yard in Walton on-the-Wolds Leicestershire and has gone from strength to strength season to season excelling with bumper runners and chasers.

We have been impressed with Laura’s range of facilities thorough preparation and determination and ambition to be successful.

Laura spent 4 years at Jackdaws Castle as travelling head girl before returning to Foxfield Stud and is currently well on the way to enjoying her best season to date.

A successful family team and excellent communicator we expect Laura to get the best out of our exciting beautifully bred bumper horse who will run later this season.

Kelly Morgan

Kelly Morgan

Pre-Trainer

Kelly has been pre training our youngstock alongside her own successful point-to-point operation which boasted a significant strike rate in her debut season.

Making use of the excellent facilities she shares with her sister they have a round gallop a 7 furlong woodchip galop and access to grass galops and schooling grounds

At Rubicon we are against putting our young horses straight up the traditional NH hill galop as we do not want too much pressure on limbs and legs that are still forming and developing.

We hope this gentle patient introduction will increase the longevity of our horses careers.

An excellent and caring horsewoman Kelly has been doing a great job with the horses that have passed through her hands.
